With these long dresses, I wonder if they cared about their shoes as much as women do now. Some people have hundreds of pairs. I probably have 20. I guess maybe they spent it on hats instead.
You might be right about spending money on hats instead of shoes. They probably had “work” shoes and “dress” shoes. I’ve seen ads for shoes in 1913 magazines. Many of them were high-top shoes, but there also were some “granny” shoes and some cute pumps.
